I want you to complete this fun exercise this weekend and then email me with your results on Monday.
You will need to keep a pad of paper on you. An index card will do just fine as well. Okay, here is what I want you to do. I want you to record all the times over the weekend that you make a recommendation to someone.
Now to get you thinking here are some of the areas I want you to preprogram your subconscious to consider…
3. Articles in Newspapers/Books that you are reading. (Like Author And Grow Rich of course!)
4. Personal/Professional Development
5. Parent/Child discussions.
7. House Hold Items
9. Your area of Passion.
10. Other—This could include recommending Basic Authoring For Business Profit from http://AwakenTheAuthorWithin.com or http://BooksMeanCredibility.com, a good conversation with a friend and recommendations that you make that don’t fit the nine areas listed above et cetera.
If you can do this exercise three times during your Friday, Saturday and Sunday that would provide you the best results.
The skinny version of your homework involves recording the 10 areas that I have stated above and listing them on an index card. Record on your index card the three or four specific times you are going to spend each day for a few minutes to analyze how many recommendations you have made in the previous part of the day. Simply put a tick by each.
The full version of your homework involves you listing out every recommendation that you made during the weekend. So if you make a choice of a restaurant, movie, sporting event, political statement, type of cereal, gas station to fill up at et cetera, you will write this down under the appropriate category.
Now here is how I want you to self reflect on the data that you accumulate:
1. On Sunday night I want you to tally up the total number of recommendations that you made over the weekend. I then want you to analyze the area(s) where you made the most recommendations.
2. Next, I want you to analyze your recommendations around whether your recommendations were tangible or intangible. Tangible recommendations would represent something that can be touched or physically seen such as restaurants, articles of clothing, types of dessert et cetera.
Intangible recommendations represent something that cannot be touched or physically seen such as a political statement, a theological belief or beliefs about parenting et cetera.
3. Now calculate the ratio of tangible to intangible recommendations.
4. Now calculate how many of these recommendations actually put money in your pocket.
5. Compare the ratio of recommendations that did NOT put money in your pocket versus the number of recommendations that DID put money in your pocket.
6. Finally, record your observations on paper. Don’t forget to record your observations as a blog post on the Author And Grow Rich blog either Sunday evening or on Monday.
The importance of this exercise is three fold.
First, I want you to get comfortable reflecting on your life. Too few people do this and this is where your mastery lies as you fast write your book and simultaneously create the most expensive programs in your niche—It lies in your ability to self reflect.
Speed To Market Principle: He/she who self reflects the greatest controls markets today.
Secondly, I want you to realize all the times you are selling an idea, a concept or something tangible and yet you are not financially rewarded for this.
Thirdly, I want you to realize what comes naturally to you in the area of recommendation selling.
Speed To Market Principle: By definition, recommendation selling is the only type of selling that works in the Recommendation Age. Recommendation selling is what comes so naturally to you that you and your ideal clients do NOT feel it as selling.
Now you can watch these two women live as they take their passion/expertise to a market place that desires a long term relationship with them…and only them…forever!
